Beware My Power

Every time I hear a Green Lantern's power ring described as the most powerful weapon in the universe I have to take a minute to think about it. Is it really as powerful as they say it is? Sure they can fly and create any green object they can think of, but there's a catch. It's all in their head. A Green Lantern's power is directly proportional to their conviction. Given the proper level of motivation and will power, there's nothing a Green Lantern can't do. And yet those who wear the ring regularly find themselves on the defensive. What in the world could shake the confidence of those who possess such power? How could someone do the impossible one minute, and start to sink the next?

Interestingly enough, Jesus once asked Peter that very question - - standing in the middle of the sea. Imagine. You've just watched a man walk out to your boat in the middle of a raging storm. Not only does He dare you to join Him, but you actually do--and it works! You're walking...on the surface...of water. And now as you defy the very laws of nature, a wave scares you?! Jesus just has to call Peter out on this, "Oh ye of little faith, why did you doubt?" Of course, Jesus knows the answer.

Peter experienced what happens to us when we lose our connection to the source of our power. He got distracted and took his eyes off of Christ.

A Green Lantern's ring is capable of incredible feats, but it requires constant charging from the source of its power. Fortunately for us, the source of our strength doesn't exist on a fictional planet somewhere across the galaxy. When you put your faith in Christ, He puts His strength in you. The God that formed the universe now lives within your soul. Jesus tells us that, "anything is possible for he who believes." In other words, the only limitations we have are the ones we place on ourselves.

Following Jesus may not come with an awesome neon ring, but fix your eyes on Christ, and you won't need one. Trust and obey Him and you'll be capable of more than you can even imagine.
